June 2005 -
Loon Lake Picnic Ride

Ride Report

Howdy SRCs,

Contrary to popular belief, ole wives tails, urban myths, and rumors, Wentworth Springs road to Ice House road and the Loon Lake area are all open and clear for the 2005 riding season.  Yippee!

Yes, we did make it to Loon Lake for a picnic.  Doug & Joan, Wes & Sandy, Sparky, Gundi & I rode up on our first picnic ride of the year, and what great weather and road conditions to ride in.  Now it was a bit cool at Loon Lake, but that did not detract from the wonderful time and beautiful scenery at the lake.

We rode from IHOP in Folsom to Georgetown where we made our stop.  Just about the time we were ready to leave, emergency crews, with lights and sirens going pulling out, and headed "up" Wentworth Springs road.

You know where this is going...

We were about to be reminded not once but twice, "Never Ride Beyond Your Ability".  Two separate accidents involving sport bikes that appeared to be going too fast and both lost control.  They were not related or at the same curve, except both appeared to be speed related.  I will not go into the details, but lets just say that we were held up by life flight for a few minutes and saw first hand, what was left of both these bikes.

So why I'm I writing about this?  It's a reminder that "SAFETY" should always come first while riding.

The rest of the trip was un-eventful, except for the great view of Loon Lake and wonderful time we all had having lunch together.  As I said it was a bit cool at the lake, but we all enjoyed our time together while talking and eating lunch...

On the way back we stopped at Stumpy Meadows "just because" it was nice and to enjoy the weather and scenery for a while longer.

All in all another great SRC ride is in the books.
